As you may already know, the semiconductor industry plays an indispensable role in modern life. From the smartphone in your pocket to the car you drive, semiconductors are the invisible force powering the technology that shapes our world. Kyocera Technologies wants to improve the awareness of the industry and attract skilled workers to the semiconductor field.

Semiconductor industry offers unique possibilities

Semiconductors are used from smartphones and computers to cars, home appliances, and hospital equipment. In other words, they are used almost everywhere you can imagine, and the technology has the potential to make many other devices even smaller and more efficient. There will also be applications that we are not even aware of yet. For example, as we explore ways to make electronics more integrated, miniaturized, and effective, we are planning to expand our MEMS expertise to new areas. To enable the new applications, the industry needs more research work to do.

The semiconductor industry is a versatile and interesting ecosystem as well as a value chain. It brings together international players, innovators, state-of-the-art technologies, design experts, manufacturing companies, and research and educational institutes. So it can be stated that the industry offers numerous possibilities for shaping the future through innovation.

In Europe, more than €43 billion will be made available to support the European Chips Act, which aims to double the EU’s global market share in semiconductors from 10% to at least 20% by 2030. And as it is said in the Without Us web page: “The Finnish semiconductor ecosystem has an excellent opportunity to become an even more significant player in the rising European semiconductor industry” and we believe that, because Finland has already established itself as a major player in the growing European semiconductor sector.

This is why we want to raise the awareness of the semiconductor world together with other Finnish companies working in the industry. It offers numerous interesting career paths and possibilities to work with revolutionary topics!

We are a part of global semiconductor network to raise awareness about the industry

While semiconductors can be found everywhere, it’s also an industry that many people may not know about. Kyocera Technologies takes part in the Without Us campaign, which is a national initiative that highlights the critical importance of semiconductors and the need for skilled professionals to drive technological advancement and innovations. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the growing semiconductor industry and its opportunities. In addition to us, the following companies have joined the campaign: Applied Materials, ASM, Beneq, Bosch Sensortech, Canatu, Murata Electronics, and Okmetic.

We also believe it is important to provide young talent with opportunities to learn and grow through practical experience. We have also been part of the Semi-Summer Programme together with Applied Materials, Okmetic, Murata, Bosch Sensortec, and Canatu. Semi-Summer provides an opportunity to gain the skills needed in a growing and international semiconductor sector. These companies are donating funds to Aalto University to offer exciting summer jobs in the School of Electrical Engineering, the School of Chemical Engineering and the School of Science. Through Semi-Summer, skilled students from Aalto University have a chance to apply to the programme and get an internship position from one of the companies that take part in the programme.

By working together, we can raise awareness of the industry and its potential, as well as establish Finland as a global leader in semiconductor technology.
