Our Operations Team plays an important role in supporting the core functions of Kyocera Technologies

We have already introduced our core engineering teams, Design, Process and Test Engineering, but there is still one team that needs to be brought into the spotlight. Without our Operations Team, our core functions would not work properly. Learn more about what the Operations Team does!

Operations Team handles IT, purchasing, maintenance, and operator services

In order for our Design, Process and Test Engineering teams to do what they do best – develop and innovate products – they need someone to take care of the equipment and other support functions, such as IT services. Competent support functions are the basis for everything we do, which is why we have the Operations Team to support product development.

Problem-solving is at the core of the team’s activities. For example, sometimes the equipment needs to be repaired. In addition, the team performs various types of development work and routine tasks. Our Operations Team provides IT services, procurement, equipment maintenance, and operator services.

“Our IT Specialist manages and develops our IT services. For example, they develop new tools and environments for processing our vast amounts of data. Our actual IT support is outsourced instead. Then we have a procurement unit that, for example, takes care of sending and receiving our devices between Kyocera’s offices. Technicians perform the actual processing work with multiple different types of processing equipment. They work closely with our processing team to ensure perfect product. Equipment engineer carry out maintenance and other development work”, says Team Leader Veli-Matti Karjalainen.

Veli-Matti says that while the Operations Team is used to solving problems, that’s not the only part of the job. The team has a supportive spirit for developing new solutions and they are always trying to find more cost-effective ways to do their work. Developing future solutions is an important part of the job. Even in the middle of the hustle and bustle, the team tries to look around and take a positive approach to doing things differently.

Operator services is the newest part of Operations Team

We have recently hired two R&D Technicians to take care of our operator services. They work in the clean room and perform hands-on tasks related to silicon wafers. These include transporting, cleaning and drying, growing and removing surfaces as well as running a sequence to obtain a resonator from a silicon wafer. The process engineering team defines the sequence and specifies the silicon wafers to be used next. Then the technicians make sure everything goes according to plan. In other words, the technicians do very hands-on work in the clean room, allowing other teams to focus on development.

R&D Technicians work in shifts. This gives them better access to use the equipment. We have access to the state-of-the-art clean room facility at the VTT Technical State Research Centre of Finland. Kyocera Technologies is part of an ecosystem where other operators also use the clean room devices.

The spirit of moving forward is strong

Veli-Matti says the Operations Team is made up of professionals from different engineering and business disciplines. The team lights up when challenges arise and they can solve them. They enjoy joint successes and always support each other. The spirit of moving forward is strong, and things are done with a straightforward attitude.
